On November 9th, 2015, the Hertie Network of Digitalization met in Berlin for its second general meeting. On that day, Onda was invited to facilitate a workshop together with Jongens van de Tekeningen on "Digital Solutions for the Refugees Crisis".

The goal of the workshop was to bring to discussion the refugee influx faced by Germany. Guided by design and visual thinking, we created the set to engage participants in the exploration of ideas with valuable contributions to solve emerging problems.

The overall structure of the workshop is showed bellow.

For a detailed report of the workshop, please check our Atavist Gallery.

This project was supported by the Fellows and Friends Program, from the Hertie Foundation.

The Research Storytelling Canvas is a tool designed to help researchers and scientists translate their ideas and findings into customized and appealing visuals, suitable for different uses and people. It takes its users through 4 steps (Generate, Eliminate, Compose and Draw) in which they think about important elements of their work and take creative and critical decisions.

The canvas was designed by Onda and Flatland. The tool was based on a reverse-engineering approach to the process that they went through to create a visual representation for a master thesis in the field of public policy. Since then, it has been tested in different workshops and feedback used for improvements. The tools is still in its Beta version and all feedback is welcomed.

You can download it here. We suggest you to print it using A3 paper if you’re using it individually, or bigger sizes if you’re working in groups.
